Kano Pillars have completed the signing of William Yikat and Luis Dadong, DAILY POST reports.

Yikat and Dadong joined the Sai Masu Gida from Czech Republic side MFR Karvina and NPFL club, Wikki Tourists, respectively.

Both players penned a short-term deal with Mohammed Babaganaru’s side.

Dadong has netted twice for Wikki Tourists before making the switch, while Yikat will be making his first appearance in the NPFL.

Kano Pillars will be hoping the duo hit the ground running at the club so as to help improve their position in the NPFL table.

The Sai Masu Gida currently occupy 19th position in the table with 22 points.

Former Lagos State governorship candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Abdul-Azeez Adediran, popularly known as Jandor, says the history of Lagos will be incomplete without mentioning the late Akran of Badagry Kingdom, De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I.

DAILY POST recalls that the monarch, who is equally the Permanent Vice Chairman of the Lagos State Council of Obas and Chiefs, joined his ancestors on Jan. 12 at the age of 89.

Speaking at the palace of the Akran during a condolence visit on Saturday, Adediran, the Visioner of the Lagos4Lagos Movement, described the late monarch as a symbol of peace and development in Badagry Division.

Adediran said the traditional ruler’s death marked the celebration of a fulfilled life devoted to humanity.

“I am here to commiserate with the family of our late royal father, the Akran of Badagry. As a member of this clan, we see this as a celebration of a life well spent.

“The Akran was more than a king. We cannot write the history of Lagos State without mentioning De Wheno Aholu Menu-Toyi I. He recorded many firsts.

“He stood at the forefront of peace and development. Baba did a lot to preserve the throne and promote unity.

“He was not just an Oba but a father to all. He was a king for everybody in Lagos State, especially in Badagry Division,” he said.

According to Adediran, the late Akran’s contributions to Badagry and the state cannot be overemphasised.

He recalled the royal blessings he received from the late Akran during the build-up to the 2023 governorship election, noting that the traditional ruler’s impact will remain unforgettable.

Adediran commended both the federal and state governments for their interventions in Badagry but for more interventions to reposition the ancient town as Nigeria’s tourism hub.

He also applauded Gov. Babajide Sanwo-Olu for approving the construction of a modern palace for the Akran of Badagry and some road projects during his condolence visit, describing the move as capable of transforming Badagry into “a mecca of sorts”.

Responding on behalf of the palace, Chief Antony Tose commended Adediran and his entourage, noting that the late Akran made remarkable contributions to the division and the state.

Tose also expressed support for Adediran’s governorship bid, saying it was time Badagry produced a governor of the state.

Similarly, Prince Adetunji Akran, the Olori-Ebi of the Akran family, appreciated the condolence visit.

Senior officials at Manchester City are more concerned about Pep Guardiola possibly leaving the club than the ongoing investigation into 115 charges from the Premier League.

The club has been involved in a legal dispute with the league for three years, claiming they are not guilty.

The All Progressives Congress, APC, has mourned the demise of Miss Chika Jewel Okparaeke, popularly known as ‘Ada Buhari’.

The APC described her as a vibrant social media influencer and die-hard supporter of the party.

The party mourned her passing in a statement by National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, on Saturday.

“Fondly known as “Ada Buhari”, Miss Okparaeke was stoic, courageous, and unwavering in her defence of the progressive policies of the APC-led administrations.

“Her passion, boldness, and commitment to advancing the APC’s ideals, especially within the social media space, set her apart.

“A thorough bred and hardworking professional, the late Miss Okparaeke consistently displayed uncommon dedication and excellence in her work for the Party as well as in her private endeavours.

‘She will be solely missed’ – APC mourns Ada Buhari

The founder of the New Nigeria Peoples Party, NNPP, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, has clarified that Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf, did not resign from the party

According to him, the governor only resigned from the Kwankwasiya Movement led by Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Reacting to reports of the governor’s resignation, Aniebonam said the letter was not addressed to the authentic National Working Committee, NWC, of the NNPP, nor to the recognised state or ward leadership of the party.

Instead, he said it was sent to a member of the Kwankwasiya Movement in Diso-Chiranchi Ward, Gwale Local Government Area.

“The NNPP NWC does not recognise the Kwankwasiya movement ward chairman as chairman of the party,” Aniebonam stated.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) had reported that Governor Yusuf resigned alongside 21 members of the Kano State House of Assembly, eight members of the House of Representatives, and 44 local government chairmen, with the announcement made on Friday by his spokesperson, Sunusi Tofa.

In his resignation letter, Yusuf said, “I write with a deep sense of gratitude to formally notify the leadership of the New Nigeria People’s Party of my decision to resign my membership of the party, with effect from Friday, 23rd January 2026.”

However, Aniebonam insisted that the resignation is not recognised by him as NNPP founder, leader, and Chairman of the Board of Trustees.

“The NNPP lifted the governor’s suspension from its membership and directed that he took responsibility of its leadership, being the highest elected officer of the party.”

He also cited court rulings, saying both the Abia State High Court and the Federal Capital Territory High Court directed INEC to recognise the Aniebonam-led Board of Trustees.

“The Federal Capital Territory High Court equally issued an enrolment order, restraining INEC from dealing and transacting any business with the Kwankwasiya movement,” he said.

Aniebonam stressed that NNPP is a registered political party, while the Kwankwasiya Movement is only a pressure group.

He added that elected officials in Kano won their seats on the NNPP platform.

“Yusuf and others… won elections under the platform of NNPP with Logo of Basket of Fruits and not Kwankwasiya insignia of book and red colour.”

He described INEC’s delay in updating its records as an administrative lapse and blamed the crisis in Kano on what he called “the high handedness of Kwankwaso”.

Aniebonam urged party members to remain calm and committed as the NNPP looks ahead to the 2027 general elections.

Gov Yusuf resigned from Kwankwasiya Movement, not NNPP – Aniebonam

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested a newly married woman over the alleged poisoning of her husband in Gauza village, Jahun Local Government Area.

In a statement issued on Saturday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Shiisu Lawan Adam, the command said the incident occurred on January 23, 2026, at about 5 pm.

According to the police, “the Jigawa State Police Command recorded a tragic incident involving the death of a newly wedded man who allegedly died after consuming a poisoned meal prepared by his wife.”

The statement said preliminary findings showed that the man ate lunch at home before falling seriously ill.

“The deceased reportedly took his lunch at home, after which he fell seriously ill and was rushed to the hospital for medical attention. Sadly, he was pronounced dead while receiving treatment,” the police said.

Following the report, detectives from the Jahun Division moved in and arrested the wife as the prime suspect.
The police added that during questioning, “the suspect allegedly confessed to poisoning her husband’s food with rat poison.”
She also claimed that “she sent her cousin to purchase the rat poison used in committing the act.”

The suspect further told investigators that she was forced into the marriage by her parents, a situation she said pushed her to act.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Dutse for a detailed investigation.

The statement said that after the investigation, the suspect will be charged in court for prosecution.
The police urged residents to remain calm and law-abiding, while advising people to seek legal means to resolve family and marital issues.

“The police further advise against taking laws into one’s hands, as such actions often result in irreversible consequences,” the command warned.

The police also assured the public of their commitment to justice and the protection of lives and property across Jigawa State.

Governor Uba Sani has disclosed that the water production of Kaduna State has increased from 8% to over 30% in the last two and half years, as a result of a comprehensive overhaul of infrastructure.

The Governor who made this known when the management of the National Water Resources Institute(NWRI) paid him a courtesy call, pledged a 100% coverage across Kaduna State by late 2026.

He lamented that ‘’for over a decade, our water sector suffered from systemic neglect.’’

‘’When this administration assumed office, we encountered a sector in deep distress—treatment plants were dormant, distribution networks had been severely compromised by past urban renewal projects, and overall water production had fallen to a staggering 8%,’’ he noted.

Governor Uba Sani disclosed that his administration then embarked on an unprecedented journey to comprehensively overhaul Kaduna State’s water infrastructure.

According to him, his government has ‘’committed between ₦93 billion and ₦100 billion over the next four years, from 2024 to 2027, to ensure that every household in Kaduna State enjoys a steady and reliable supply of clean water.’’

The Governor said that his administration spent over ₦5 billion replacing pipes lost to vandalism and damaged during past urban renewal projects in Zaria and Kafanchan.

‘’A further ₦10 Billion investment in replacement of priority and critical pipelines for Kaduna is ongoing,’’ he said, adding that ‘’ we have invested ₦1.4billion in high-quality water purification chemicals.’’

According to the Governor, his administration had cleared ₦1.3 billion in outstanding electricity bills to keep pumps running to guarantee uninterrupted operations.

He pointed out that Kaduna State Government has not only invested in water infrastructure renewal, but also ‘’prioritized the welfare of workers who make things happen in the water sector.’’

The Governor added that he has cleared the salary arrears of Kaduna State Water Corporation (KADSWAC) staff, amounting to over N900 million and integrated the workforce into the heart of the reform agenda.

‘’I have also approved the allocation of land for a Mass Housing Project in Millennium City, Kaduna. We want the professionals who safeguard our water resources to have a place they can proudly call home,’’ he disclosed.

The Governor promised to collaborate with the National Water Resources Institute for the long-term sustainability which requires not only infrastructure but expertise.

He allocated land to the establishment of branches of the institute in Zaria and Kachia, adding that they ‘’will bridge critical training gaps and ensure that our state agencies are staffed by some of the best-trained water professionals in the country.’’

Earlier, the Director General of the Institute, Dr Abduljalal Danbaba said that (NWRI) has both academic and research mandates, adding that it harmonises the activities of the 12 River Basins in the country.

He disclosed that the Institute has been recognised as a World Metrological Centre in Africa, disclosing that NWRI advises the Minister of Water Resources and Sanitation on manpower needs and training.

Dr Danbaba disclosed that the Institute wants to boost its enrolment and that it is offering complimentary forms to Kaduna State Government, for short term courses to enhance its manpower development.

Ryan Alebiosu has reflected on his experience with Nigeria at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, DAILY POST reports.

The Blackburn Rovers defender was a surprise inclusion in Eric Chelle’s squad for the competition.

It was the first time Alebiosu will be involved with Nigeria at the international level.

The right-back made his Super Eagles bow in their last group game against the Cranes of Uganda.

Alebiosu sustained an injury in the game, and was unable to play for the remainder of the competition.

The 25-year-old said it was a remarkable experience for him in Morocco.

“It’s been a great experience for me [with Nigeria at AFCON 2025. Getting called up and being a part of my national team was a different experience that I learned over there. A wonderful experience,” Alebiosu told BBC Sport.

Alebiosu is expected to feature for Blackburn Rovers against Watford on Saturday (today).

The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria, TUC, and the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, have issued a 14-day ultimatum to the Federal Ministry of Health over the delayed implementation of the report of the Technical Committee on the adjustment of the Consolidated Health Salary Structure, CONHESS, which was submitted in 2021.

The unions made this known in a statement jointly signed by TUC Secretary General, Mr Nuhu Toro, and NLC Acting General Secretary, Mr Benson Upah, on Saturday in Abuja.

The unions are demanding the immediate implementation of the CONHESS report, which was chaired by the National Salaries, Incomes and Wages Commission and aimed to address salary distortions in the health sector.

“Health workers have waited long enough for over five years. The Ministry must act without further delay. Failure to implement the CONHESS report is a direct affront to organised labour and the hardworking health professionals who sustain the nation,” the statement said.

Describing the continued delay as a deliberate act of injustice against health workers, the unions noted that the non-implementation reflects bad faith and institutional disrespect for organised labour.

They also recalled that similar adjustments under the Consolidated Medical Salary Structure, CONMESS, were implemented promptly.

According to the unions, “The selective application of salary adjustments exposes government’s insincerity and discrimination.”

They further highlighted repeated engagements and interventions with the Ministry of Health that have yielded no response, warning that failure to act within the 14-day deadline will trigger nationwide industrial action.

“We have exercised restraint for years, but our patience has run out. The Ministry must act now. Should the government fail to implement the CONHESS report within the stipulated period, organised labour will mobilise all Nigerian workers for coordinated industrial action,” the statement added.

The unions said potential industrial actions could include mass protests, picketing of health institutions, and withdrawal of services across the country.

They emphasized that health workers’ labour sustains the nation and cannot continue to be ignored.

“Bureaucratic excuses and promises without action will no longer be tolerated. TUC and NLC therefore place all affiliates, including state councils and the FCT, on red alert for mobilisation,” the statement read.

The unions urged the government to avert avoidable industrial action by complying with the ultimatum within the 14-day period.

TUC, NLC issue 14-day ultimatum to Health Ministry over CONHESS delay

The Nigerian Army has dismissed reports alleging that a Gombe State indigene, Ibrahim Nazifi, died during military training at the Depot Nigerian Army (NA), Zaria, describing the claims as false and misleading.

In a statement issued by the Acting Assistant Director, Army Public Relations, Depot NA Zaria, Captain Chikadibia Viola Anele, the Army clarified that although Nazifi was shortlisted for training, he never reported to the Depot.

The statement was posted on the X handle of the Defence Headquarters on Saturday.

According to the Army, available records show that “Ibrahim Nazifi successfully passed the State Recruitment Screening Exercise conducted in December 2025 and was subsequently shortlisted for training in Depot Zaria.”

However, the statement stressed that he “never reported to the Depot for commencement of his training and at no point was he admitted into the training programme.”

The Army further noted that, as a result, the Depot has “no record of his presence, participation, injury or death during training,” insisting that no such incident occurred within its facility.

The statement urged the Gombe State Government and other relevant authorities to investigate the circumstances surrounding the reported death.
It advised them to ascertain “where, when and under what circumstances the purported deceased died,” since the alleged incident did not take place at Depot NA Zaria.

While acknowledging that military training is rigorous, the Nigerian Army emphasised that demanding training conditions should not be misconstrued as negligence.

“Military training is deliberately designed to build endurance, resilience and combat readiness,” the statement said, adding that although casualties may occur in rare cases, “robust safety measures, medical coverage and risk-mitigation procedures are firmly in place to ensure maximum protection of trainees.”

The Army therefore called on members of the public to disregard the reports and refrain from spreading unverified information capable of misleading the public and damaging the image of the Nigerian Army.

Nigerian Army denies alleged recruit’s death during training

A gun battle in Gwoza Local Government Area of Borno State has resulted in the deaths of five suspected Boko Haram terrorists and three members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF).

The incident was disclosed in a post shared on X on Saturday by security analyst Zagazola Makama.

According to the post, the clash occurred at about 2:30 pm along the Ngoshe–Pulka Road, when armed men ambushed CJTF members and hunters who were on a routine patrol in the area.

During the exchange of gunfire, five of the attackers were killed. However, three CJTF members, Yunusa Ali Ananicha, Adamu Zakari, and Daddy Ali, also lost their lives.

The bodies of the fallen CJTF members were taken to Gwoza General Hospital, where they were confirmed dead on arrival. They were later released to their families for burial in accordance with Islamic rites.

Following the incident, troops of Operation HADIN KAI were placed on alert along the axis. Security patrols were also reinforced to prevent further attacks and maintain calm in the area.

Gun battle claims lives of five terrorists, three CJTF members

A Canada-based group, Goodluckan Movement, has called on former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 election.

Spokesperson of the group, Chidinma Unigwe, made the call on Saturday in Ontario, Canada, during an interview with Arise Television monitored by DAILY POST.

Unigwe said Jonathan’s leadership style reflects the values that Nigeria urgently needs.

She said the group believes that Nigeria needs a government that genuinely cares about its people and a nation where citizens have equal opportunities, adding that every Nigerian deserves nothing less from their leaders.

“Leaders are accountable and public trust is respected. Our mission is to promote good governance, peaceful civic engagement, and informed national dialogue, particularly at a time like this when Nigerians feel disconnected from leadership.

“We are all aware that most Nigerians are uncertain about the future.

“So in this context and using this platform, we’re publicly calling on former President Goodluck Jonathan to contest the 2027 presidential election because we believe his leadership qualities are relevant to Nigeria’s current challenges.

“We call on Nigerians at home and abroad to join the movement.

“At this moment Dr Jonathan represents respect for democratic institutions, national unity and restraint in the exercise of power. These are qualities that have become even more important in times of economic pressure, such as this, times of social tension, and now that we have declining trust in leadership,” she said.

Former Chairman of the Presidential Taskforce on Power, Becks Dagogo-Jack, says the FCT Minister, Nyesom Wike, would not have succeeded as Rivers State Governor if he had 27 ‘snakes’ as lawmakers.

Dagogo-Jack made this statement on Saturday in an interview on Arise Television monitored by DAILY POST.

According to him, the political crisis has affected residents of the oil rich state.

He added that the situation has nothing to do with Fubara, stating that if any other person had been governor and hailed from the same area, they might have gone through the same circus.

“There was an agenda. The agenda ran into a glitch. Since then, there has been effort to recover instead of pulling back, withdrawing, apologizing and allowing the governor to do his tenure as everybody else has done.

“In fact, it’s because it’s Fubara that it’s impossible for them to succeed, because anybody else who is not as calm, calculating, disciplined, humble would have reacted into their trap. He would have fallen into their trap in the kind of crisis that has been set in all over the place.

“We have 27 Assembly members who have decided that they will not be loyal to the state. They were loyal to an individual, and they constituted themselves into snakes in the House.

“How many people can live in a house with 27 snakes? Even former governor Wike, if he had 27 snakes when he was there, he won’t build all these flyover bridges. He won’t have the peace of mind.

“So it is unfair for these people elected by us in their different local governments to constitute themselves into the kind of danger that they’ve constituted that a man should not do his four years today. It’s difficult to even say you want to assess Fubara because where are you starting from? He’s fighting, he’s working, he’s fighting. He can’t sleep,” he said.

Nigeria Football Federation, NFF, technical director, Austin Eguavoen, 1has questioned Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle’s squad selection for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, in Morocco.

Eguavoen said he felt disappointed that four players from the Nigeria Premier Football League, NPFL, were not included in Chelle’s AFCON squad.

Chelle’s 28-man AFCON squad was mostly made up of foreign-based players like Calvin Bassey, Victor Osimhen, Alex Iwobi, Ademola Lookman and Akor Adams.

“I felt disappointed that we didn’t include some NPFL players in the AFCON squad,” Eguavoen told Footy Africa.

“Some players in the team may not even get a minute of action, so why couldn’t we include a few players from the local league? At least three or four would’ve been better.”

A former Commissioner for Health in Oyo State, Dr Kayode Afolabi has disclosed that Nigeria needs more trained mid-level manpower to tackle the health challenges facing majority of people at the rural communities.

Afolabi tasked the federal, state and local governments to engage more trained manpower to contribute to healthcare services delivery, especially at community level.

Dr Afolabi, who doubles as the Provost of Premier College of Health Technology, Ibadan made the call while speaking at the maiden convocation ceremony of the institution on Friday, noting that the contributions of mid-level health professionals cannot be ignored, especially at the community level.

“I wish to specially acknowledge the Community Health Practitioner Registration Board of Nigeria and the National Board for Technical Education (NBTE) for their regulatory guidance, quality assurance, and unwavering support to our college and other colleges of Health Technology in Nigeria.

“Your standards have shaped our academic structures and ensured that our programmes meet national benchmarks. Meanwhile, Professor of Clinical Sciences, at the College of Medicine, University of Ibadan, Imran Moharson-Bello, in his convocation lecture, advised governments at all levels to improve the capacity of community health workers because they are the closet to the people at the grassroots.

“Presently in Nigeria, we have over 10,000 primary healthcare centres. But, as at today, only 46 per cent of Primary Healthcare centres are functional. It is important for everybody particularly the graduands to know that convocation marks a transition from learning to leadership. There are a lot of challenges which I have identified.

‘There should be nobody living that should not have access to quality healthcare services. It is important to be sensitive to the social cultural contexts of the environment. You should understand this. Primary Healthcare is the foundation. Any nation that needs to have healthy must invest to build the capacity of the community health workers. We need to appeal to the government to make social amenities to be available at the rural communities to make life more meaningful,” Prof Moharson-Bello said.

Nigeria needs more mid-level manpower to improve healthcare in communities – Dr Afolabi

The factional NNPP Chairman in Kano, Senator Masaud Jibrin Eldoguwa, has expressed sadness over the sudden resignation of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano from his party.

“I feel bad losing one of the proactive  governor of my party. Certainly, we in NNPP will be missing him greatly”, he said while speaking exclusively with DAILY POST in Kano.

Senator Masaud, however said Nigerians and all those expressing all sorts of negative opinions on the matter have to understand that joining a political party is a personal action to whoever wishes to do so, so also when withdrawing.

“Therefore, for Abba, it was a personal decision to withdraw, and I do not see it as an offense. After all, it was a decision the people of Kano State were expecting and waiting to see.

He said, “For too long, anxiety was very high, and the political atmosphere was tense, with a lot of uncertainty. Therefore, those who have been waiting to hear can now sigh a sign of relief and think of something else.

“However, as a chairman, I feel bad about losing one of the proactive governors of my party. Certainly, we in the NNPP will miss him.”

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command’s Buffalo Patrol Team have arrested a 62-year old man, Nwanlioba Ikechukwu Dominic and five other suspects in possession of 3 pump action guns and 1 locally fabricated Dane gun, 1 battle axe, and 26 live cartridges.

The suspects were arrested on 22 January 2026 at about 1610 hours, DAILY POST can report.

Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe confirmed the report in a statement in Warri.

He said, “On 22 January 2026 at about 1610 hours, operatives of the Command’s Buffalo Patrol Team, while on routine stop-and-search duty at the Head bridge boundary between Anambra and Delta States, intercepted a green Toyota Sienna travelling from Anambra State into Delta State.”

According to SP Edafe, “The occupants of the vehicle, all dressed in mufti, claimed to be in Delta State to welcome a visiting religious leader. However, a detailed search of the vehicle revealed a cache of concealed weapons, including three (3) pump-action guns, one (1) locally fabricated Dane gun, one (1) battle axe, and twenty-six (26) live cartridges.

“The suspects arrested in this operation are: Nwanlioba Ikechukwu Dominic (male, 62 years), Agbata Mathew (male, 35 years), Osita Chineye (male, 39 years), Favour Peterson (female, 23 years), Prince Tochukwu (male, 32 years), and Clement Nwakwa (male, 51 years).”

SP Edafe also noted that, “Suspects were taken into custody and an investigation is ongoing. “

62yr old man, five others arrested over possession of weapons, ammunition in Delta

Nigerian Mining and Geosciences Society, NMGS, has called on relevant authorities to ensure mandatory geoscientific investigations before mining activity is carried out.

It noted that such investigations would not only serve as foundation for sustainable infrastructure development but enhance environmental management.

Speaking during a press briefing in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, as part of activities marking 261st National Council Meeting of NMGS, President of the Society, Rose Ndong, decried the level of illegal mining activities going on across the country noting that aside from the economic loss Nigeria has suffered, the environmental degradation has left much to be worried.

She also raised concerns over push backs from citizens who engage in these harmful practices when being confronted, expressing hope that more sensitization would be created on this aspect.

Ndong noted that NMGS works with policy developers on suitable policies that the country would run with, explaining their efforts in pushing for a council that would regulate illegal practices in mining sector.

According to her, “NMGS will continue to advocate for mandatory geoscientific investigations as a foundation for sustainable infrastructure development.

“We are looking at how these minerals can be extracted safely without making it so chaotic. It’s not just our body, there are other bodies that are working with us as partners in sensitizing people, especially women and young children that are being used in some of these areas or sites.”

On the forthcoming 61st Annual International Conference and Exhibition (AICE) in Uyo, themed, “Optimizing Efficiency, Sustainability and Resilience in Resources Management and Infrastructure Development,” Ndong said there was urgent need to manage Nigeria’s natural resources responsibly while building infrastructure that is safe, durable, and climate-resilient.

She assured that the conference will place Akwa Ibom in a vantage position as a geo-economic hub within the Niger Delta region. She added that it would provide the State and Nigeria a unique platform to promote geo-tourism and investment, enhance infrastructure resilience, address climate and environmental challenges as well as strengthen national capacity in geosciences.
